a cozy little space to read a book...or nap :)

software: max + mental ray

most of the time on this project was spent learning how to properly output the light rays pass and how to properly create the trim work :p

everything built by me in 3ds max including all books

This is beautiful however if I could say one thing, the windows do not look real enough for me, they are not as well textured and just have slightly too much light which over powers the framing. They almost look like they are fuzzy or in a dream like state. It's just that the portion where the windows are does not look real or touchable to me and the framing is too white, whereas the rest of the piece does. All in all a great piece, just a bit of tweaking and more realism and it would be perfect. Keep up the good work.

I like it alot, really makes you want to look everywhere and inspect everthing...but thats also a bad thing in one occasion (at least to me). The floor look wayyy too glossy, almost like it's a laminate flooring. Maybe that is what you were going for but thats how it looks to me.

thanks! I'm still learning to create realistic materials. might try a second run at this render later on with some better shaders

Just use Arch & Design mats with you own diffuse bitmaps and so on. For your floor it looks like you just had it too glossy. If you would have turned down the glossiness you would have gotten a more realistic result. And it also looks like you used bump mapping. Bump mapping is okay, just don't over do it. Just a couple tips from what I've learned so far. Hope it helps ;)

I want this in my future house! This looks great! The only thing I would say is I agree with someone who mentioned in the critique section that the windows aren't as realistic as the rest of this piece, because of lack of texturing and too much light. Other than that, this looks great and somewhere I totally want to live! I especially love the refreshing, calming colors. They remind me of a relaxing beach. =]

thank you, it's called parti-volume shader. Takes some time to render in comparison to a render without the effect, so if your in a rush it might just be easier to fake in photoshop :p

I like this idea :)
Imho i would change the material of the floor, decrease the amount of bump/disp. And i think that warmer green would be better.
Keep up the good work :) and plz tell me how did you create this volume light? :D As main light in the scene I use mr daylight system. When I added volume light effect it turned off this light. Dunno why :(

Thanks! :) The volume light is created with parti-volume, I found it much easier to control than other methods. I use the mr daylight system to create the initial beauty render with some other passes. Then I do another clay render to get an ambient occlusion pass and the atmosphere pass, which is the light rays. I tried for hours to get it to work with the daylight system, but it kept getting blown out. Basically just replace the daylight system with a target direct light with an intensity of 1 and no falloff.
